‘Attention all Harry Potter fans, you are invited to drink your tea in style! ‘
If you’ve read Harry Potter and the Neverending Rain then you already know that I am a big fan of the boy who lived. So naturally, when I found out that there’s a B&B in Wales that serves Harry Potter themed high tea, I HAD to go there. My hubby, being the sweetheart that he is, organized the whole trip for my birthday.
Llety Cynin is a converted coach house turned B&B located in the Welsh countryside. A perfect spot to relax with a good book, go for a walk or hang out in the leisure club. The food they serve for breakfast, lunch and dinner is quite good as well!
When you arrive in your room you quickly notice that they love working with themes. The cute little sheep you get to hang outside your door as a ‘do not disturb’ sign are a perfect fit for a hotel that is located on a working diary and sheep farm. It wasn’t easy to stop myself from steeling the cute fur toy. And though we were already up bright and early the following day, I still had to hang that little lamb on the doorknob just for fun.
The High Tea
Hedwig’s Theme makes its way through the common areas of the cozy bed and breakfast. You can’t ignore its persistent call even if you tried. We make our way to the common room which has been especially transformed into the Gryffindor Common Room for this occasion. We put on our hats, take a seat on the couch and order two butter beers (lattés with whipped cream). I take a look around the candle-lit room. The fake (and a few real) spiders are everywhere. Ron would not have been pleased 😉
Our treats are served in an owl cage (Hedwig must be out delivering a letter 😉 ) and everything looks delicious. The finger sandwiches are pretty straightforward, but the rest is completely in style. We get to try a piece of Harry’s birthday cake, eat some chocolate frogs and nibble on gamekeeper’s rock cakes. But there’s also house shortbreak, screaming baby cakes and aunty’s triffle. After trying on Harry’s glasses for the zillionth time and filling my already overloaded stomach with pumpkin pasties I leave the sour lollipops for what they are. I am stuffed!
I did ace the quiz though, but that should come as no surprise 😉
We tremendously enjoyed our stay at Llety Cynin. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and though the location is somewhat remote, it’s great for walking or relaxing in the clean air and green surroundings. If we ever return to the area, we will definitely drop in here again. Maybe for another themed high tea. I would not have missed Harry’s for the world 🙂 It was a great way to celebrate 20 years since the first book.
